About 3DplusA

What is 3DplusA?

3DplusA is a web platform that brings 3D site models, equipment documentation and connected operational data into one workspace. Your team can explore sites and find information in a browser. Use it as a cloud service or install it on your own servers.

Who is 3DplusA for?

It is designed for utilities and organisations managing infrastructure, including water, energy, telecoms and transport. It is especially useful when teams look after multiple sites and need a shared view of equipment, documents and operational data.

Who in the organisation uses 3DplusA?

Operations managers, engineers, maintenance teams and field technicians use the same site view to prepare work, locate equipment and review documentation. It also helps colleagues who are unfamiliar with a site understand its layout before a visit.

What are the benefits for utilities?

Teams can prepare maintenance remotely, find documents alongside the relevant equipment and share a common view of the site. This can reduce visits made only to check the layout or collect information. The time and cost savings depend on your sites and working practices.

What are the key features of 3DplusA?

Core features include generating 3D models from phone or drone video, exploring models in a browser, adding annotations and equipment documents, and viewing LiDAR point clouds in our web viewer. SCADA and IoT data can be connected within the agreed integration scope. Features and capacity depend on your chosen setup and plan.

Can we preserve knowledge when an experienced colleague leaves?

Yes. Review the model with that colleague and record site-specific notes, photographs and instructions beside the relevant equipment. The team can then consult these records during handover and onboarding. Agree who will keep them up to date.

How can we start with one site?

Choose a site and a useful task, such as preparing maintenance or introducing a new colleague to the layout. We agree the capture method, documents, hosting, deliverables and price. Use the first model to assess which questions the team can answer remotely before extending to more sites.

Capture and models

Can we capture sites ourselves?

Yes. Use a phone or drone to capture video for the model-generation workflow. Your team can also perform 360° camera capture, or we can do it for you. We agree the processing and outputs for your chosen method.

Who can carry out 360° capture, and what do we receive?

Your team can record the site with a 360° camera, or you can book our capture service. Before capture, we agree how you want to use the recordings, how they will be processed and which outputs will be delivered. A 360° recording is not automatically the same as a 3D model.

Do you provide LiDAR scanning?

Yes. Our team carries out LiDAR scanning, and your team reviews the resulting point cloud in our web-based LiDAR viewer.

Can we use our own drone?

Yes. We agree the capture requirements for your site and check whether your drone and camera are suitable. Clear footage, good coverage and stable recording all affect the result. A short sample recording helps us confirm suitability before you capture the full site.

Do we need LiDAR or special equipment?

For the video-to-model workflow, you can use a suitable phone or drone; LiDAR is not required. 360° capture uses a 360° camera. If you choose LiDAR scanning, our team provides the scanning service. Requirements for running model processing on your own servers are agreed separately.

How long does it take to create a 3D model?

The time depends on the size and complexity of the site, the amount and quality of footage, available processing hardware and any required editing. We estimate the turnaround after reviewing your requirements or a sample recording, and agree the delivery schedule before starting.

How do video-based models, photogrammetry and LiDAR differ?

3DplusA can generate a realistic model from phone or drone video for visual site review. Photogrammetry reconstructs 3D geometry from overlapping images, while LiDAR scanning produces a point cloud from laser measurements. We help you choose the capture method based on the intended use and required accuracy; any measurement requirements should be agreed before capture.

Can you automatically generate a 3D CAD model from LiDAR and images?

Yes. We automatically generate 3D CAD models from LiDAR data and images, with export for further work in your CAD software. We agree the modelling scope, accuracy requirements and output format for your tools before starting. CAD model generation is quoted separately from the published video-model rates.

Using the platform

How does 3DplusA work?

First, your team or ours captures the site using the agreed method. For phone or drone video, you can generate models in 3DplusA yourselves, or we can prepare them for you. Your team then explores the results in a browser, adds documentation and annotations, and connects operational data where an integration has been arranged.

Do we need technical skills to use 3DplusA?

Exploring models and opening documents in the browser does not require 3D modelling skills. Site capture and model preparation need some guidance to achieve useful results. Installation on your servers and connections to other systems require coordination with your IT team; we agree the support you need.

Why use 3DplusA if we already have GIS and SCADA?

GIS locates your sites and SCADA provides operational readings. 3DplusA adds a visual view of rooms and equipment with their documents. We can link readings to equipment or embed the view in an existing web portal where supported, after agreeing interfaces, access and integration cost. A site model is also useful without a SCADA connection.

Can we use it for remote or hard-to-access sites?

Yes. Once a site has been captured, teams can review the model and documentation remotely and prepare work before travelling. The model shows the site as it was captured; it does not update automatically when the physical site changes. Connected live data is available where an integration has been set up.

How do we keep the model current after changes?

After equipment or layout changes, capture the affected area again and update the model and its documents. Your team can do this, or you can book our service. Agree responsibility for updates as part of the workflow. Connected live readings do not automatically update the physical appearance of the model.

Can we start without connecting SCADA?

Yes. Start with a 3D model, equipment annotations and selected documents. These already support preparation and knowledge handover. A SCADA connection is a separate integration: we review the source, access, scope and cost before adding it.

Can we use measurements for design or ordering parts?

The required accuracy determines the capture method and how we check the result. Use visual models to prepare work and identify what needs checking. Before relying on dimensions for design, clearances or ordering parts, agree the measurement requirements and validation with us. Do not assume every model has survey-grade accuracy.

Hosting, data and pricing

Can we install 3DplusA on our own servers?

Yes. We install the application for model processing, storage and browser-based use in your environment. Your team can capture sites and create models independently, or we can capture and prepare the models for you.

Where do you process models for us?

On our equipment or yours, depending on the project. We agree the processing location separately from where the application and finished models are hosted.

How do we agree data security and access?

Before deployment, we agree where data will be processed and stored, who needs access, and the requirements for protection, backups and maintenance. If your data needs to remain in your environment, we can install 3DplusA and process models on your infrastructure. Specific security measures and responsibilities are defined for the chosen setup with your IT team.

What do we pay for?

Cloud platform access, model generation and capture services are separate. Published generation rates cover phone and drone video. 360° capture, LiDAR services, 3D CAD models, installation on your servers and custom integrations are quoted for your project.

Start with one site. One useful task.
